We are here! Sunshine Bible Academy SD-495

We arrived at Sunshine Bible Academy this afternoon and set up camp.  This is a very quiet location and those we have already me are very friendly.  Here is our first glimpse of the camp.
This is what greeted us when we pulled up in front of the camp on highway 45.

They have a lovely chapel and we are looking forward to going through it.  Right now there are no students on campus so most things are closed.

Behind the welcome sign is the administration building and student housing, girls on the right, boys on the left.

We are situated behind the admin building in a "wooded" area.  In fact, we had to trim a couple of trees because as soon as we backed in Alfa said, "they're touching me".

One last post from the farm.

We have had a good time here at the farm but we must get ready to head north (hopefully to cooler weather).  Things look pretty good here and we will miss the wonderful view from the hill.  Yesterday we had a party to celebrate our 46th anniversary.  My brother brought a couple of his grand kids and his daughter and we had cake and ice cream.

The hills are still very green even though it has been over 100 for the last week.

We started the day off with a card exchange.

Then we moved on to the cake.

Boy!  Did everyone enjoy the cake and ice cream.
Still the view is magnificent.
See you next from Miller, South Dakota.

Got to wrap it up here

We are nearing the time when we must depart from the farm and head for Miller, SD, and Sunshine Bible Academy. We have a few things to wrap up but it has been sooooooooooooooo hot we have not been able to work more than a few hours at a time. Here are a few of the things we are trying to finish.

When pressure washing the house I took off all the paint on the trim.  So, more of my favorite work, painting.

After digging a big hole to set a 1,000 gallon septic tank, there was a lot of dirt left over.  The man who put the tank in place spread and leveled it all making the pad larger.  However, with all that fresh dirt, the next rain will take it all to the Mississippi.  Solution, errosion control mats.  Lacking any premade mats, we found rolls of burlap at Lowe's and after mowing a bit of the CRP grass and spreading it on the hill we have ready made errosion mats.

Ta Ta!  Completed and sprinkled.

Meanwhile, the job supervisor is caught up in another book!

Our Home is Home!!!

WE DID IT!  WE DID IT TODAY!!  Since everything was done on the motorhome pad and we were making a trip to St. Joe, we brought ALFA home with us.
Isn't She a beauty!

On our fresh load of gravel and under our ash trees.  Looks like it belongs there.

And here is the view we can see from our front window tonight.  Go God go.  You do great work.

How high's the water Mama???

We are currently in a fight with the Missouri River and we are losing.  The river has a major flood stage of 27 feet and we have been over that for a month and will likely be over that for another two months.  Sand and dirt levies are meant to take major flood stage for a few weeks, not months.  The sand boils are appearing hourly and it is a major battle for volunteers to keep them from becoming a major breach.
This picture and the next are of a construction company just east of Wathena in an area which is usually high and dry.  The levy is leaking enough somewhere to completely fill this area which is 2 miles from the river with water.

This is CR165 (Old Highway 36) coming from Elwood.  It has been closed for a week.

Does anybody remember Charlie's old house on the river bank?  It starts to flood at about 23 or 24 feet.  You can just see the roof in the back left of the picture.

Here is a private picnic area near the junction of the middle road and the river road.  The picnic area is in the trees at the top of the photo.

With that in mind, we have ramped up the completion of the motor home pad at the farm.  We find Kent closing up the hole over the septic tank and the leach field.

This is the Kent we are talking about.

Brother Pat and I are doing what we do best, supervising!

Now we are joined by the rest of the Kiefer crew watching (AKA supervising) Kent as he levels the last bit of gravel on the site.
Therefore, with this work completed, we will be moving the ALFA here very soon just in case the Missouri River wins the battle.  It will have to come up a Noah amount to get  to us here.

The Lazy-Hazy days of summer

Well we are still "resting" at the farm.  We did complete a couple of projects.

The gazebo is repaired and has a new coat of sealer!

The flower garden is cleaned,

The house got a pressure washing and all in time for the 4th celebration.

Brother Pat and his family came to provide someone to light the fireworks.

Of course, we can't come to the farm without going to the creek and playing in the mud!

Later, nephew Billy and his family came to join in the activities (which is really great for the 4th since Billy runs a fireworks stand).

Everyone got into the action.  The problem with the poppers is some are to light to stomp on them and get them to pop.

When someone needs a little help they can always go to Uncle Pat.

Even the exotic came to join in on the festivities.

A couple of days later we were able to watch one of Sydney's softball games.  When Billie asked her what they played Sydney informed her that they play "fast pitch now".  And of course, the team is coached and sponsered by Billy and Fleek's Auto Sales!
