September at Shocco Springs is over and it was a blast!

We have completed the September project at Shocco Springs.  We were the only Sower couple here but we had a lot of good fellowship with Campers On Mission.  There were 17 couples here with a few others driving in once and a while to join in the activities.

This campus is definitely one of the most beautiful places that we work.  This small lake is teeming with bass but they are really particular about what they will bite on.
Since we are a lot further south than South Dakota there is an abundance of things which will grow readily here.
The campus is also very well taken care of.  We have met some of the people who work on the grounds and they are very serious about what they do.
Even the RV park is well taken care of.  Here we are in the middle of the Campers On Mission.
This is the circle which is in front of the chapel and it is so colorful and beautiful.
In the lake there are not only fish and the camp has added a lot of water "toys" since we were here last---
---including this great slide.
Talladega is the county seat of Talladega County and they have a lovely old brick courthouse---
---and anywhere you ride in the area---
---you are always driving in thousands of acres of trees.
One little place where we stopped along the road was this Flea Market and we especially liked this decoration.
Of course we are here to work!  They have two inns, Mountain Ridge and Rocky Ridge which had some need for maintenance.  The existing TP holders were being pulled from the walls.  Billie went ahead of me and removed the old holders---
Then I came along and put up the new ones.
Isn't that just the cutest screw gun operator you ever laid eyes on!
After the holders Billie went and helped in the laundry for a while---
---and I did my best to revive this door which was beginning to de-laminate.
Rocky Ridge had another problem which stemmed from doors which hit each other when they were both opened at the same time.  You can see the entry door behind me in the next photo.  They had tried a commercial door stop but because they had to be placed so close to the hinge they failed very quickly.  Solution, make a much larger one.  These stops were cut from a 2 x 4 with a 1 x  4 cover plate.
These won't break!  The other problem is that if the bathroom door is opened forcefully it will eventually it will tear the bottom hinge loose.  Solution, add a hinge stop to the top hinge to slow the door down before it hits the floor stop.
Billie also worked in the gift shop (always a costly move) rearranging and cleaning the shelves.
After the door stops I was sent to the outside basketball court to seal all of the saw cuts and prepare the surface for sealing.
The crack sealing will take at least 40 tubes of caulk and right now I only have 23.  There is more in the way but it will not get here until next week when we will be on break.
One last assignment, as you know one of my favorites, painting.  They have four classrooms which are in real need of freshening.  Fortunately the room is all one color.
On the Wednesday evening  before the end of the project we all Sowers and Campers On Mission had a potluck.  These ladies can cook!
After the project was over we made a trip to Newnan, Ga. to spend a few days with Billie's brother Douglas.  We visited the old courthouse and Doug showed us some of the things he had worked on over the years.
We also had a chance to help watch three of Ginger's children while were there.  This is Victoria and Jr.---
 ---on a visit to McDonald's.
 This is baby M'Kyah.
She is a handful for Papa Doug---
---but if she needs changing he looks like an old hand.
We were happy to entertain her---
---and watch her trying to walk---
---and she seemed fascinated with my nose.
We had a lot of fun interacting with them---
 ---playing kick ball---
---getting them ready for a "sleepover"---
 ---swinging in the park---
 ---sliding down a pole---
 ---and watching them accomplish things.
There was also some beautiful flowers at the park.
One closing picture of sister and brother before we headed back to Talladega for the October project.

Finished at Sunshine Bible Academy for the summer!

We finished our July and August projects at SBA and are headed to Shocco Springs Baptist Conference Center in Talladega, Alabama for our next project.  We stopped at the farm for a few days to catch our breath and do a few chores on the way.

This is what this field looked like after we burned it in April.
This is how it looks now.  God has provided a new fresh cover of prairie grass.

After removal of all of the debris---
 ---laying out the new footings---
---construction began in earnest on the new entry way.
As the walls went up---
---we were more excited about what was happening.
Finally it looked like a real addition---
---With a contoured tie to the existing building--
---steel siding and a steel roof.  The door used is the door that came out of the old primary school which had to be removed to build the new Event Center.
The inside of the entry is fully insulated---
---and sheet-rocked.  The ceiling was a challenge---
But soon it was done and the walls were started.
Meanwhile Billie was busy painting the scullery and kitchen to get them ready for students.
At the end of the project we had the blessing of celebrating our 50th anniversary.
The registration table was set---
The room (the school wrestling room) was set---

---and of course corsages were suitable pinned on---
---to both of us.
The school superintendent and his family (plus one) were there to get us started.
The staff who was on campus came to support our celebration.
The maintenance men volunteered to do the barbecuing---
---and the head cook served for us.
We had to cut the cake---
---and a number of friends from our church in Watertown made the trip to celebrate with us.
There were also a number of friends from the St. Lawrence church where we attend while at SBA who came out to honor our special day.
Billie even had a special song, "I'd choose you again" played for us as we danced for those in attendance.
Great friends and good food made for a memorable day.
We received a beautiful selection of cards which we have displayed in our motor home.

On an afternoon drive we came across some very beautiful sunflowers.  There are actually many acres here planted in sunflowers.
August is now here and we have a new group of Sowers who have joined us for the month.  Bill and Luciene Eickelberg are on their second project with Sowers and Gorlyn and Ruthie Hagerbaumer have joined us for a second year.
The ladies had a number of new text books to cover---
---and the desks need to be cleaned and sanitized before students arrive.
The steps to the chapel needed to be painted to finish the refurbishing so Billie completed the job before it got too hot to be out.
The ladies also cleaned all of the rooms in the event center, including the music room.
Bill began the job of finishing---
---while Gorlyn finished driving screws in the walls.
Some of the cuts were complex but they were up top the task.
Meanwhile, I took a stab at laying brick again this year.  I wanted the  brick to resemble the pattern of the brick on the Event Center.
During the first week of the project we surprised Billie with a birthday party---
---and were joined by many of the staff.
The entry to the office was looking a little shabby and the ladies scraped paint---
---and I had to do some concrete repair---
---so Billie could put on a fresh coat of paint.
Another task that needed to be done before school started was to repair the football jerseys.  My lovely 50 year partner took on the task.
After the walls were finished we hung a new light---
---and all-in-all the place is looking pretty spiffy.
